Would be handy if these buttons could be moved to a more easily accessible place. Especially on a large screen like an iPad, there ends up being quite a distance between the drawing area (when centred) and these buttons when they are in the bottom corners. In free drawing mode, the same suggestion would also apply to the undo button.

I would like to learn Kanji based only on the Japanese words they appear in with no English translations. Right now I have “Prompt with” set to “words” and “fade in English definitions” disabled, which gets me pretty close, but I still see the English definition once I correctly write the Kanji. I would really appreciate an option to completely disable the English definition from appearing.

This has previously been requested but I think has been misunderstood on what's being asked. While your app does automatically back up it's progress from a database perspective, it does not currently share this database across separate devices. This is something that needs to be explicitly setup. As an example, I currently have your app running on both an iPhone and an iPad. Any progress made on the iPhone is not actively synchronized to the app instance on the iPad. The cloud sync that you currently have is simply maintaining a backup of the app in the case of needing to restore a device. Now that we have free drawing mode (thank you again!) I would like to open another post for enhancements I have previously suggested. It would be great if free drawing mode only activated automatically once the kanji has been learned to a certain level (e.g. tensai), or at least to have the option to set this up. The guided modes are still very useful when the kanji is relatively new to me. When we are self-marking, it would be useful to be able to see the stroke order numbers and directions so we can give ourselves a final double check. From what I can tell, the default mark we are given still takes the stroke order into account, which is great. However, there are edge cases where the auto checker may be mistaken and therefore a double check would be useful: very short strokes may have been drawn in the wrong direction, and multiple strokes close together may have been drawn in the wrong order.

Can we please have an option to increase the stroke width of our handwritten strokes? The current pencil thin strokes look quite scrawly. This wasn’t so noticeable before, but now when using free drawing mode, it’s a lot more apparent. Something closer to the thickness of the correct answer would be great!

I feel an option to remove furigana from the example words would be nice so I can know the readings of kanji rather than just learning vocab. I believe that furigana should be revealed with the English definition.

This might be a lot to ask, or it could be very easy to implement depending on how the app was created. I was wondering if a new mode could be added for compound word study. Nothing major — imagine that after pressing the "Study" button, you have the classic single-kanji study option, plus a second option for compound words. This second option would work just like the first one, but instead of a single character slot, there would be multiple slots for a specific word. For example, if the question is "警察": The app says the word aloud and shows its meaning, just like usual. Two character slots would appear instead of one. You would be expected to write both kanji, one after the other, from memory into the two slots. A possible feature could be to only include compounds made up of kanji you've already learned in the normal mode. So you wouldn't see "警察" unless you had already studied both "警" and "察" individually. The more kanji you learn, the more compound words would become available. I imagined this as an add-on to complement the main study. For example, after reaching "Tensai" or "Senpai" level and above with a new kanji, related compounds could become available in the second mode, alongside other kanji at the same level. Sometimes, I get a kanji wrong because i accidentally tap the screen somewhere before i even start drawing, etc. In cases like that, it would be good if I could: mark as a flubbed input retry without recording a success or failure, and without revealing the kanji (as this would tell me the answer) Currently, the only option when this happens is to mark the answer as incorrect, as the fact that i can see the kanji and didn’t draw it means i can’t just assume i’d have gotten it right. --------------------- Originally posted to ringotan.helprace.com Author: easynam Date: 2022-08-19 08:14:23
